Subs, Subs, SUBS!!!! This is a special long weekend of diving on submarines. We’re thrilled to offer this unique trip out of Portland on a fabulous new purpose build diving hard boat with a lift! This weekend trip is suited to anyone with a qualification to 55m (or deeper).
We will be targeting 3 of the following submarines (with second dives offered on the Saturday and Sunday):
- M2 (target for Saturday) – lies in 32m of water. This submarine was converted into a submarine aircraft carrier in 1927 and was one of only 3 M-class boats completed. She sank on exercise in 1932 when water flooded the submarine through the hanger door.
- HMS Safari – lies in 42m of water. This submarine was commissioned in 1942 at Holy Loch. She was very active in the second world war and was then sold for scrap, but sank while being towed to the shipbreaking yard.
- HMS Sidon (P259) – lies in 35m of water. Launched in 1944 (same class as HMS Safari). She sank due to a faulty torpedo in 1955 with the loss of 13 lives.
- U322 (target for Monday) – lies in 53m of water. This German submarine was laid down in February 1943 and was sunk by depth charge just 10 months later.
We have managed to secure a great weekend diving from Scimitar. Hot drinks and a snack are offered on board.
Itinerary:
We will be meeting on the boat every morning. Sites are weather dependent, so will be confirmed a few days before the trip. There will be an organised dinner on the Saturday night if you would like to join us.
Cost:
The cost is £200 and this will include diving only. In order to secure your place, we will require a deposit of £100 and we suggest getting insurance at the point of booking as you’re liable for the full price if you cancel and don’t fill the space.
