We run our Instructor Development Course (IDC) at a number of locations, primarily in Somerset and London. Our Somerset IDC and IE are based in the Vobster Quay area. Our London IDC has pool sessions at Croydon High School for Girls, theory sessions in Brixton, and the open water days and Instructor Exam (IE) at Wraysbury Dive Centre.
Somerset IDC – approximate schedule – this will depend on participants and we have some flexibility:
- Saturday – meet and greet, course paperwork, confirm schedule, theory,
- Sunday – theory, presentations
- Monday – Confined water (Vobster Quay area) & presentations
- Tuesday – Confined water (Vobster Quay area) & theory
- Wednesday – open water (Vobster Quay) and theory
- Thursday – open water (Vobster Quay) and theory
- Friday – theory / exams
- Saturday – mop up
- Sunday – Instructor Exam (assuming candidates are ready) at Vobster Quay
London IDC – approximate schedule – this will depend on participants and we have some flexibility:
- Friday evening – meet and greet, course paperwork, confirm schedule
- Saturday – late morning meet for theory, evening pool session – finish in-water session at 10pm
- Sunday – late morning meet for theory, evening pool session – finish in-water session at 10pm
- Monday – theory
- Tuesday – theory
- Wednesday – open water and theory
- Thursday – open water and theory
- Friday – theory / exams
- Saturday – mop up
- Sunday – IE (assuming candidates are ready).
Prerequisites:
- Minimum age 18
- Certified diver for a minimum of 6 months
- Proof of 100 logged dives completed in a number of different environments with varying depths
- Be certified as a SDI Divemaster, SDI Assistant Instructor, or equivalent
- Provide proof of current CPR, first aid and oxygen provider*, where local law permits
Costs:
- Materials – £369 plus postage (it’s the smaller kit here: https://www.tdisdi.com/store/sdi-products/open-water/instructor-kits/) – payable to Purple Turtle Diving
- IDC – £850 – payable to Purple Turtle Diving on booking IDC – this includes tuition and pool entry, does not include entry to open water sites, gas or equipment.
- IE – £150 – payable to the Instructor Trainer running the IE on booking
- Registration with SDI (includes 2020 membership) – approximately £150 payable to SDI at point of registration.
