Alex’s First Few Days as an Intern!

16 September 2016 by Toni Norton

I’m Alex and I learnt to dive with Toni at Purple Turtle Diving. I completed all the theory here at Amphibian Sports and all the training dives at the pool and then I completed my Open Water certification at Wraysbury when I was 14 years old.

Since I learnt here in the UK, I’ve been on holiday a few times dived in Dubai, Egypt, and Mexico, and I’m going to Dubai again soon.  I’m doing my work experience here at Amphibian Sports, and so far I’ve had an enjoyable time. On my first day I met James and Vicky, and they showed me around the shop.   It’s a big task to come into the dive centre and understand all the safety procedures, there seem to be a lot but I have been going slowly so I don’t miss anything.

On my second day I build a workbench to be used as a regulator servicing desk.  It had a draw that was very difficult to build, as the instructions weren’t very clear, but I managed to fix it in the end.   It was funny because all the old divers coming into the shop were trying to help me, but I had it!

Unfortunately the workbench is now in a corner next to a similar workbench, so the draw can’t be used and is pretty useless- but the rest is fine. Today I’ve spent learning where all the stock is and how to do the equations for the air fill of the cylinders, Vicky showed me how to calculate TriMix fills on the Gas Management Program on the computer. Who knows what I’ll be doing for the rest of the week, keep it pinned to find out!
